Latest Fishing Report
Report Date: 08/04/2008
Tarpon fishing remains to be strong. You can find tarpon scattered throughout the harbor. Best bets have been targeting feeding schools of Ladyfish. Where ever you find these Ladyfish feeding, Tarpon will not be too far.
Inshore fishing for Redfish and Snook remains good, especially in the mornings and late afternoon. Your best bet on Snook is on the beaches and in the passes and look for great Redfish action under the mangroves during the high tides. Trout have been on the small side but remain a consistent bite on the grass flats around the passes.
Offshore the best bite has been the snapper bite. The new and full moons produce great action, especially at night. The grouper bite has been best in 100+ ft of water using pinfish.
Report Date: 07/10/2007
Inshore fishing has slowed a bit with the hot days and very little rain to cool off the water temperature. Redfish have been very scattered with a few schools starting to form. Snook fishing has been the best bet with live bait. Tarpon up in the harbor has been extremely slow. Fishing in Boca Grande Pass has produced the best Tarpon action the last three weeks. Expect large scattered schools to start showing up in upper Charlotte Harbor once the waters turn stained with fresh water.
Offshore fishing has been the most consistent bite the last few weeks. King Mackerel, Bonita, Amberjack, Sharks, Goliath Grouper and Mangrove Snapper are all biting well. I saw a 40lb Sailfish in 45 ft of water and several catches have been reported in 90-110 feet.
Tight lines!
Report Date: 06/20/2007
Tarpon fishing in and around Charlotte Harbor has slowed down a bit. Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande Pass has been consistent with some 200lb+ fish being caught.
Shark fishing has been very dependable in and around Boca Grande Pass. Bull, Lemon and Black Tips make for some great hard fighting action.
Inshore fishing has been hit and miss. Lots of pressure from weekly tournaments seems to be taking its toll on our Redfish. Snook fishing has been the best bet on the flats fishing with live bait. With all the pressure inshore we have been running out into the Gulf for some great offshore action. King Mackerel and Amber Jack are steadily keeping the rods bent.
Looking forward to some great late season Tarpon action from July-September.
Tight Lines!
Report Date: 04/19/2007
Snook fishing has been the best bet. Fishing with live bait has produced some great catches in recent weeks. Tarpon have started to funnel in and should be in full stride by the first of May. Shark and Mackerel fishing has also been dependable. Redfish are starting to school up on the flats.
Report Date: 08/31/2006
Tarpon of all sizes are now within Charlotte Harbor. The hardest choice now is to decide if you want 20-30 pounders or 100+ pounders.
Redfish action has started to pick up with the best action along the east and west side of Charlotte Harbor and within Pine Island Sound.
Tight Lines!
Report Date: 06/09/2006
2006 has brought us some of the best Shark fishing I have seen in years. Bull, Lemon and Black Tip sharks can be caught anywhere you find the Spanish Mackerel. Tarpon fishing has slowed a bit and is expected to pick up after the full moon in June. Redfish action is very scattered along the mangroves. Catch & release Snook action is still the ticket on the flats.
Report Date: 05/22/2006
Tarpon have been consistent in the early morning.
Night Tarpon fishing has been the most reliable with calm evening winds.
Snook are everywhere. Great catch and release action with the season closed.
Redfish has been very spotty.
Sharks are thick along with huge schools of Spanish Mackerel. Larger sharks (up to 10 feet) are being caught near the passes.
Scattered Cobia along both sides of Charlotte Harbor.
Tight Lines,
Capt. Robert Moore
